Rakesh Chand Vs. State of Punjab

Indian Penal Code,1860  - Section 304-B

Dowry death - Conviction of parents set aside - A demand of Rs. 20,000/- made by husband and his parents in the year 2000. This demand was duly met - A second demand of Rs. 50,000/- made only husband April 2003 - Death of bride after 3 days of demand - Parents acquitted the only demand that could be foisted on them was of the year 2000 - It could not be said that demand in the year 2000 was soon before death of bride so as to be liable for conviction under Section 304-B of the Indian Penal Code.
